Without enough physical memory, a computer can slow down to a crawl, in terms of performance. If you can't buy more memory at a moment's notice, you can perform a series of tasks to make the most of what you have. Besides shutting down redundant processes or setting the Windows theme to basic, to preserve resources, you can also use a specialized application to optimize the memory usage. TweakRAM was created specifically for this purpose. It monitors the RAM usage, just like the Windows Task Manager and it can free some memory, to make your computer work faster.

TweakRAM was developed for Windows XP, Vista and Win 7, but it is known to work on Windows 8, as well as older versions. It can be installed in just a few seconds, without making any complex settings along the way. The application is free to try for a limited period of time, but without any kind of functionality restrictions.

The main user interface displays the computer's free and used memory, in live graphs, as well as the CPU and swap file usage. All you have to do is click a button, located in the lower region of the interface, and the application will start optimizing, to balance the speed and memory. Alternatively, you can try to free a specific amount of memory.

The best part about TweakRAM is that it can optimize the RAM automatically. You can bring up a tabbed configurations panel and set the application to optimize every few minutes. Furthermore, the operation can be performed if the available memory drops below a given value and it can be prevented if the CPU usage exceeds a certain threshold.

Besides its RAM optimization capabilities, TweakRAM comes with other useful utilities, like a processor detection toolkit, which displays various details about each processor core. Additional tools can be found in a top menu, on the main interface. They allow you to clear your recent documents, the clipboard, the Internet Explorer cache and more.

Pros

The application is capable of optimizing a computer's RAM and it allows you to free a specific amount of memory. The best part is that it can optimize the RAM automatically, every few minutes or when the free memory drops below a value of your choice.

Cons

There are no obvious drawbacks to mention. If upgrading a computer's RAM is not an option, TweakRAM gives you the possibility of making better use of your current memory.
